Organic products are becoming more and more popular. Even people who don’t seek out organic goods are now finding them on offer on the supermarket shelves. The organic option can become a responsible alternative, provided we understand fully why it’s in our best interest to choose it.
Some people say organic food is a fad or a trend. They believe that, as with all fads, there’s no real quality addition to their purchase, but rather an unjustified extra charge compared to non-organic products.
But really, the cost of conventional products is plenty high when you think about the real value (or lack thereof) they are offering.
Conventional vs. Organic Products
Compare a conventional cosmetic product (shampoo, lotion or make-up) to one made with organic plant extracts. The conventional cosmetic uses a vehiculant base made of chemicals like propylene glycol. The surfactants used are produced in laboratories in industrial quantities, and the perfumes are almost all synthetic. It might be cheaper on the shelves, but what is the true cost of putting that stuff on your skin?
An organic product on the other hand, uses a vehiculant base sourced from vegetal oils, surfactants derived from coconuts, natural sugars or olive oil, and aromas derived from essential oils. These ingredients are actively good for your skin.
Now, consider that it costs 7 to 12 times more to produce an organic vegetal cosmetic than it costs to produce a conventional one, but its price isn’t 7 or 12 times higher! The organic products might seem pricey at first, but their quality and value for money are superior. And of course, the conventional cosmetic provides no added value for you or the planet. Instead, it’s packed with low-cost chemical substances that aren’t compatible with either the Earth or your skin.
In truth, there is no comparison between the two. Organic products are more than a trend. They are the kinder and healthier choice, both for human beings and the planet. They are the best way to keep it real!
